We spent 3 nights after our cruise at Hotel Albani. The location was outside the Aurelian Wall, but in a wonderful neighborhood full of shops and cafes, and very close to the Borghese Gallery. The staff was friendly, and our room was spotless and very quiet in spite of having a school group in the hotel with us. Our patio overlooked the neighboring villa. The mattress was very firm and not super comfortable. At check-in we were given a gigantic key chain and metal key, but we just took the huge keychain off so we didn't have to carry it around. The bar was not great - mostly no one was there. We didn't try the breakfast, opting to have cornetts and espresso at the cafe a block away instead.

Our first room was fine and big with plenty wardrobe and storage space but the air conditioning was not working properly. So after two nights we were moved. Our second room was much smaller but had a balcony. However, it didn't have a wardrobe or storage spaces, except up very high at ceiling level. There was a bar for hanging clothes but not enough hangers so this meant all our clothes were stacked on a shelf which made the room very untidy looking. The staff are very pleasant and the quietness in the corridors/bedroom area was good. Breakfast was great and was not very busy any morning. Plenty of choice including gluten free options. There is a bus stop close to the hotel which brings you directly to Roma Termini. Also a choice of restaurants and bars locally.

No air conditioning and very poor service

When we arrived at the hotel the outside temperature was 26 degrees and our room, which was south facing, was very warm. I couldn’t get the air con to work so I popped downstairs to speak with the receptionist. She curtly stated that the manager had decided to switch the air con off. He was due in the following morning and she would ask him to switch it back on. In the meantime we were moved to another room that still had no air con but, hadn’t been facing the sun all day - still too warm but we had no choice. That evening I asked if we could have a drink in the hotel bar. We located ourselves on one of the settees and waited for the barman to appear. He didn’t. We subsequently discovered that he had actually been in the bar all along - it was just that he was permanently on FaceTime and his PC and we had assumed that he was a guest of the hotel. Not once did he look up from his devices to take breath let alone serve hotel guests. On the second morning I saw the hotel manager at reception and asked him when he was going to turn the air con on as it was set to be 26 degrees again that day. He said that he wasn’t going to. When I then said that we had purposely booked a hotel with air con he just shrugged. I asked him if he intended to update the hotel’s website to confirm that air con was not available and he simply said no. On the final morning my wife slipped in the shower and cut her head. I asked reception for the first aid box and took it to my room as, luckily, my daughter is a junior doctor. All of the medical supplies in the first aid box were out of date - some in fact dating back to 2008. Upon returning the box to reception my daughter suggested that they review and renew its contents. Overall a really disappointing experience. Rome is a fantastic city unfortunately, Albani Roma is far from being a fantastic hotel…

Overpriced for what you get

Very disappointing - especially with respect to the fees (i.e., 340 € incl. taxes). Actually the pictures on the website are misleading - the hotel looks trendy and glamourous but the single room I got (426) was looking like a mouse hole - not a 4* hotel room - tired carpet, outdated bathroom designed in the 80"s, tiny bed - looked like a student room at the uni dorm frankly. The lobby is large and clear and attractive - but upstairs at least some of the rooms would require some extensive relooking, especially with respect to the price. Breakfast was OK downstairs - not a very sexy dining room but they manage to get some natural light. No real issues apart from that - apart from the fact that people at the Reception phoned me the morning I left to ask me to pay for the city Tax, although I still did not checked out yet - cannot tell whetehr theyr fought I did run away leaving my luggages in my room. Location is fine, close to the Villa Borghese and walking distance (20 min) from the Roma Termini station. Decent choice of restaurants all around. Still, will not come back guys, far too expensive for what I got, sorry!

So far this has been an awful experience. My bed is rock hard and tiny, the bar food was expensive and the worst meal I have ever ordered (not exaggerating.). The walls are so thin that a baby crying down the hall has woken me up several times. Do not recommend. Very unhappy with this experience. Paula
